    The ‘Someday’ Lifestyle

What does your lifestyle say about who you are and what you believe? Since I was 14 years old, my life mission has involved loving at-risk youth. At 14, I had no idea how this goal would be achieved or how to pursue it. My answer? College. I attended a fantastic University and four years later, held a Bachelor’s of Science in Family & Human Services. I described my degree as “it’s like social work, but not”. Descriptive, right? As a high school student, my future plans didn’t

    In Parts. Two

Part 2: Work This summer was one of the best times of my life to date. With no steady employment, I was forced to depend daily on Christ and rest in His great love for me. My faith grew immensely as I knew that I was a loved child of God who wanted to care for me. Along with that, I had to acknowledge that His idea of caring for me and my idea might be a little different. While fully knowing there are millions that are unemployed and struggling for every bite to eat, I was fo

    In parts. One

Part 1: Recap I left my job back in February, and by the end of the month I was in South Africa. A lot has happened since then. Here’s a re-cap. Next week will break it down in separate posts. I’ve got to keep your attention somehow! March 1 – April 15: Volunteering with Angels of Mercy Pregnancy Crisis Centre. Curious? See previous posts starting here. April – May: Spent time with my family in Nebraska, as part of sending off Alicia to Bolivia with Word Made Flesh. May – J

    The skinny.

Alright people, here’s what’s going on in my life. Still no job. I’ve had a few interviews, but I’m still waiting. So, in the meantime, I found some things to do. Tuesday morning I’m going out on the road with this lady. Final stop: Los Angeles. From there, I will fly to Nebraska to spend some much needed time with my family. My brother will be home on leave for a week, and my grandparents will be there to see him also. It’s like Christmas, in July! The first weekend in Augus

    Here a job, there a job, everywhere a job-job

Last week I was crazy-busy with work. I worked several odd jobs and loved it. I kind of would like to be self-employed forever and just do random jobs. It’s great. And completely unreliable.  But last week it worked fine. This week, I’m not working but I do have two job interviews! There is a possible part-time job for the remainder of the week as well. So many people have heard of my jobless plight and have sent information my way. Not only do I have two interviews this week

    Purpose and Affirmation

Yesterday during lunch, God and I had a little discussion. It consisted of me being frustrated with the purpose of life. Not just life in general, but my life. Through some of the things I’ve been reading lately, I’m seeing the world in terms of people groups, not individual people. This made me angry with God (or more specifically, angry at my lack of understanding) that he has created the world in a way where large groups of people matter, but individuals don’t so much. Rep

    Calling

Career v. Calling Job v. Vocation What can I do with this moment? If God has called me to something, nothing in the world will stop that from happening. Pray. Don’t force life to happen. Experience. Journal. Engage in conversation. I’m busy thinking about a lot of things these days. Nothing new, I suppose, since my mind is always traveling faster than my body. After a conversation with a friend over dinner last night, I was reminded of some of the thoughts above. Did you know

    Things I’m Thinking About

Here are a few (okay, many) things I’ve been thinking about: – How little I know about what it really means to be healthy – What does it mean to not run away – Sometimes it’s okay to run away. – February looks like a good month to buy a house – Should I buy a car first – I question the sanity of all persons running for President – I am really sick of DTRs – I need to finish that grad school application – I’ll study for the GRE…tomorrow – Finally, I’m doing things I’ve always

    Job Searching

So, I’m in the middle of searching for a “real” job right now. Working at Applebee’s as their favorite hostess helps to keep me busy and brings in some money, but I moved here to work with at-risk teens. There aren’t many of those at Applebee’s, although my coworkers definitely have their issues (don’t we all?). I have sent out only a dozen resumes, and have kind of burnt out the last two weeks. There is a place I want to work for, but I haven’t heard back from them yet (and
